I was stationed at Brunswick Naval
Air Station, Brunswick, Maine and assigned to Patrol Squadron 23(VP-23) when I first saw
Silver Lake in the early 1960s. When I met Regina I began hearing about "my
lake," and after my first visit I started feeling the same way, it's "my
lake." In fact, I talked so much about it that my co-pilot, Ltjg Dan Turner, wanted
to see it. We were on an overland navigation flight out of NAS Brunswick when Dan said
"Lets buzz your lake." I sat in the all-plexiglass bow of the plane and directed
him over Portland, Me., followed Route 25 across to New Hampshire to the intersection of
Route 25 and Route 16. We flew north from there and came right over our camp at the
southern end, dropped to about fifty feet off the water and flew the length of the lake. I
got real lucky because Regina's entire family was there to see the pass. Her father Chet,
and her brother Paul were just leaving the dock in the row boat and I could see their
faces as we passed over. NOTE: The links in this paragraph are
